Dying, Spinning, Silk paper making workshop

Dying silk with fiber reactive dyes:

  1. Fill dye bath with 2 liters of cold water
  2. Dissolve 2-4g of dye in a small amount of warm water
  3. Add due to dye bath and stir
  4. Add fabric to dye bath and stir for 5 minutes
  5. Slowly add 40g of salt over 10 minutes while stirring regularly
  6. Add 20g washing sod and stir
  7. Stir regularly for 30 mins
  8. Remove yarns, drain and rinse

Spinning yarn

  1. Card the wool
  2. Attach end of wool to spindle
  3. Spin away from body while pulling out wool
  4. Once wool is spun hold two strands together and allow to twist together

Silk paper making

  1. Pull out silk and lay one way on top of jay cloth
  2. Lay other threads which to add colour and pattern on top
  3. Then lay silk across in the bother direction
  4. Spray with water
  5. Iron until dry

I particularly enjoyed spinning as I love the textured yarns which this creates and think it would be really interesting to weave with this thread. I would also like to experiment with dying wool, especially using natural dyes.
